SASSOON AT THE V&A

SASSOON AT THE V&A

You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970

Opening on Saturday 10th September, we are proud to support this major exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum that will explore the era-defining significance and impact of the late 1960s, expressed through some of the greatest music and performances of the 20th century alongside fashion, film, design and political activism. The exhibition considers how the finished and unfinished revolutions of the time changed the way we live today and think about the future.

Vidal Sassoon revolutionised hairdressing in the 1960s, creating geometric haircuts that came to define the style of the decade. Based on the relationship of hair shapes to an individual’s bone structure, they were intended to be easy, efficient, and free women from the time-consuming routines required by hairstyles popular in earlier decades.

The exhibition will include a ‘Sassoon Sunday Salon’ with live haircutting. Every other weekend, visitors to the exhibition can see competition winners receive a signature style from a Sassoon stylist within a specially designed hairdressing area at the start of an abstracted street-scape evoking Swinging London.

Exhibition co-curator Victoria Broackes says, “Hairstyling in the 1960s went way beyond fashion to transform self –identity, particularly for the young. We are delighted that the support of Sassoon has enabled to show this live in the exhibition”.
